Washington, D.C. – Last week, the Department of Homeland Security paused the work of its “Disinformation Governance Board” after only a few weeks.
While the Left was quick to blame the treatment received by radical “Ministry of Truth” head and bizarre Tik Tok creator, Nina Jankowicz, the real truth seems to be much more than that.
According to reports, the board was paused out of fear that testimony from Jankowicz would embarrass Maggie Hassan, who serves on the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
Normally, when such a controversy in your committee arises, or when confronted with such a concerning report, a Senator would issue a statement or answer questions from the press. Hassan hasn’t.
As the NH Journal rightly points out, this “pause” does not mean the board is dead, and in fact, many Senators (from on and off the committee) have already written letters demanding answers, or have sought to deny funding. Meanwhile, Hassan, who is one of only 14 Senators on the committee has done nothing and won’t even so much as offer her constituents her opinion.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Classic Hassan. Hide, let others do the work and take the heat, and hope everything blows over. The new Disinformation board is clearly and unsettlingly Orwellian, yet Hassan says nothing. Why serve on the committee? Better yet, why serve in the Senate if you refuse to do an ounce of oversight into a controversial new program? The answer is, she is afraid and is hoping people forget in time. They won’t.”
