Washington, D.C. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), based in Grand Junction, CO is in need of a new leader. Unfortunately, President Biden is pushing for Tracy Stone-Manning to lead the agency.  Stone-Manning has a checkered past and allegedly engaged in tree spiking, a form of eco-terrorism that could kill loggers and mill workers.

Yesterday, the BLM’s hometown paper, the Daily Sentinel, wrote a scathing editorial opposing Tracy Stone-Manning’s nomination entitled, “Hasn’t the BLM suffered enough?”  Stone-Manning’s nomination was called a “massive vetting failure” by one White House official, and the Daily Sentinel’s editorial board agrees.

They concluded:

“She will enter office snakebit, and that won’t help the BLM or the communities impacted by its policies. Confirmations boil down to the party in charge of the Senate. Right now that’s Democrats. So, this may well be a tempest in teapot. But we think a less controversial nominee is in the agency’s best interest. There are plenty of capable people — with far less baggage — available to run the BLM. To stick with Stone-Manning is to court controversy needlessly. That’s the opposite of what the BLM needs now.”

The question then becomes why does Colorado’s senior Senator support this clearly flawed, dangerous candidate? Colorado loggers, mill workers, ranchers, and farmers demand to know.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Failed presidential candidate Michael Bennet is proving that his team-building skills wouldn’t be any better for Colorado than the current President’s. By supporting an alleged eco-terrorist like Tracy Stone-Manning, Bennet is proving his utter disregard for not only the timber industry but everyone in Colorado who relies on sound judgment from BLM. Coloradans are realizing that Michael Bennet is out of touch with the lives they lead on a daily basis.”
