It’s a tough job: Strickland already has a steep challenge keeping up with the fundraising of the man he hopes to defeat next November, incumbent Republican Sen. Rob Portman. Strickland raised $970,741 in the most recent quarter, giving him $1.5 million cash on hand, compared with Portman’s $2 million quarter – and Portman’s $11 million cash on hand. For now, it’s not even a matter of whether Strickland will keep up. The question is whether he can be competitive, keep a cohesive operation and mount a winning campaign against Portman, assuming he wins a primary against PG Sittenfeld.
