The NRSC released a 60-second paid web ad today aimed at Michael Bennet’s dangerous national security positions. The ad is part of a broader national security campaign that will run in five states including Colorado. The ads will be featured on YouTube and Facebook.
The ad emphasizes Michael Bennet’s broad support of President Obama’s foreign policy including his support for the Iran nuclear deal and closing Guantanamo Bay.
While Congress voted in a bipartisan manner to prohibit closing Guantanamo Bay and to stop the transfer of detainees, Michael Bennet stood with President Obama in support of his misguided campaign promise. Bennet voted twice to allow detainees to be transferred from Guantanamo Bay to the United States. Now, according the Associated Press, two United States prison locations that could receive the detainees are in Florence and Canon City, Colorado.
By supporting the Guantanamo Bay closure, Michael Bennet is not only endangering the public safety of Coloradans but he is also ignoring the concerns of 41 Colorado Sheriffs who wrote to the President in opposition of transferring the detainees to Colorado.

Bennet Said He Supported The Obama Administration’s Nuclear Agreement With Iran Because He Said “This Agreement Is More Likely To Prevent Iran From Acquiring A Nuclear Weapon Than The Plausible Alternatives.” BENNET: “After an exhaustive review of the agreement and a lengthy consultation process, which included briefings from our own defense, national security and intelligence experts, international inspection and verification experts, regional experts, former Israeli military and intelligence officials, and the P5+1 ambassadors as well as Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, I have concluded that this agreement is more likely to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon than the plausible alternatives. I will vote, therefore, to support the agreement.” (Sen. Michael Bennet, “Statement Of U.S. Senator Michael Bennet On The Iran Nuclear Agreement,” Press Release, 9/4/15)
- Despite Supporting The Agreement, Bennet Admitted The Iran Nuclear Agreement “Has Flaws” And Said “I Don’t Trust Them. I Believe They Will Cheat.” “Bennet acknowledged that the accord ‘has flaws,’ but it does give the rest of the world a better opportunity to know if, or when, Iran has gone ahead with its nuclear program. If that happens, the whole world will react, and the United States won’t have to go it alone in dealing with it, he said. ‘We need to do everything we have to do, including a military option, to prevent Iran from having the bomb,’ the senator said, pounding his fist on the podium. ‘There’s nothing about this deal that leads me to want to trust them. I don’t trust them. I believe they will cheat. When they cheat, I believe we will be in a much stronger position to use military force because we have chosen diplomacy and worked in a multi-lateral fashion.’” (Charles Ashby, “Bennet Defends Vote For Iran Deal,” The Daily Sentinel, 9/12/15)
