The Washington Free Beacon reports Ruben Gallego is fighting to keep his divorce records under seal after he abandoned his first wife when she was nearly nine months pregnant. Gallego argues there is minimal public interest in the records, despite repeatedly referencing his divorce in public comments and stating the marriage ended, in part, due to “extreme outbursts.”

The Washington Free Beacon announced it was seeking to have the records unsealed in January, arguing “it is in the public’s interest to know their lawmakers. What was the nature of these ‘extreme outbursts’? Did they result in physical threats or violence? What were the circumstances surrounding a divorce that Gallego himself said ‘outsiders think’ came at ‘the worst possible time’? Surely, he has to admit the timing could have been better. “

NRSC Statement: “Ruben Gallego can’t have it both ways. He has repeatedly referenced his divorce in public for years, but is now trying to hide the truth about why he abandoned his wife when she was nearly nine months pregnant.” – NRSC Spokesman Tate Mitchell
