TAMMY’S TERRIBLE WEEK IN REVIEW:
3/1/16:
- Just like the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Defender endorsed Andrea Zopp over Duckworth. The Chicago Defender endorses Democratic, U.S. Senate hopeful, Andrea Zopp…We believe that elected public servants should be those who have a proven track record of leadership and experience driving positive change in the communities they represent.
3/2/16:
- President Barack Obama joined Congressman Bobby Rush, Congressman Danny Davis, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Michael Madigan, Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers, the Cook County Democratic Party, and Michael Sacks – Mayor Emanuel’s “go-to-guy,” in refusing to endorse Tammy Duckworth.
3/3/16:
- Crain’s Chicago Business reported that Tammy Duckworth’s own chief deputy at the Illinois VA contends that she used her vets’ post to merely build her political career. The woman who was Tammy Duckworth’s chief deputy at the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs says Duckworth was focused not on serving vets but "lights, camera, action! . . . Building a pyramid for herself politically." In an interview, Rochelle Crump, who was deputy director at the department for eight months until Duckworth pushed her out, contends that Duckworth, while well intended, was more about helping herself than doing a job for those who had been in the military service.
3/4/16:
- NBC Chicago expanded upon the shameful allegations that Duckworth "used her position at the VA as leverage for her political career… to gain notoriety and further her political career." A former Duckworth subordinate claims the congresswoman used her position at the VA as leverage for her political career…Crump, who worked in the department for eight months before allegedly being ousted by Duckworth, claims the congresswoman used her position as director to gain notoriety and further her political career. “I felt she was building her way politically,” Crump said.
3/5/16:
- In its endorsement of Zopp, Peoria’s Journal Star felt the need to remind Tammy Duckworth that the job title she seeks is "senator of Illinois, all of Illinois" given her continued absence in the area. …Duckworth, too, has been a no-show in the Peoria area during this campaign with the exception of a Labor Day parade appearance last year. We’d just say that the job title is senator of Illinois, all of Illinois, and her absence in the Peoria area has been duly noted."
3/6/16:
- Following her paper’s endorsement of Andrea Zopp, a senior staff writer for the Chicago Defender hit the airwaves on WGN-TV to bash Tammy’s truancy. We have not seen Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, and we’ve reached out to her several times…And we’ve seen Andrea Zopp…She’s been there to answer those hard-hitting questions, whereas Congresswoman Duckworth has not been there in terms of what our needs are for our community.
3/7/16:
- Only Tammy Duckworth could have made cutting POW/MIA scholarships the second-most shocking development regarding her veterans record in one day. Following WLS-AM News‘s breaking development, NBC Chicago reported that "VA whistleblowers accuse Duckworth of ignoring veteran abuse, corruption." During a radio appearance Monday, Veterans Affairs whistleblowers Germaine Clarno and Dr. Lisa Nee claimed that Rep. Tammy Duckworth did little to respond to their claims of mistreatment of veterans and corruption within the Hines VA. According to their allegations, Duckworth was largely unresponsive to evidence related to veteran mistreatment and inadequate investigations conducted by the VA’s inspector general. Clarno claimed that, although she approached Duckworth "many" times, the congresswoman did little to respond to her claims.
